Frantzén Group brings Brasserie Astoria to historic Malmö Västra Station
The celebrated brasserie concept by Björn Frantzén will open in Malmö in 2027, breathing new life into one of the city’s most iconic railway landmarks.
Originally opened in 1874 in connection with the Malmö–Ystad Railway, Malmö Västra Station became an important hub connecting Malmö with southern Sweden. Over the decades, the station played a central role in the city’s railway history before passenger traffic was gradually phased out during the mid-20th century. The current station building, designed by architect Peter Boisen in 1897, remains one of Malmö’s most distinctive historic landmarks, shaped by more than 150 years of movement, meetings, and city life.
The restored station building will now enter a new chapter as the home of Brasserie Astoria Malmö. The restaurant will feature a spacious dining room, bar, and outdoor seating. It marks the group’s second Astoria in Sweden and the sixth Brasserie Astoria overall.
Much like the Stockholm flagship, housed in the former Astoria Cinema, the Malmö outpost draws inspiration from the grandeur and social energy of historic gathering places. The carefully restored station building, with its rich architectural character and cultural heritage, provides the perfect setting for Brasserie Astoria’s vibrant interpretation of the modern brasserie.
Brasserie Astoria Malmö will revive the spirit of classic European dining halls through flambé trolleys, tableside service, and Chef Frantzén’s contemporary take on timeless brasserie cuisine.
Guests can expect an extensive à la carte offering, a carefully curated wine list, signature cocktails, and a lively restaurant and bar experience open late into the evening.
